Rubee Prattley-Jones is a queer artist whose sculptural practice interprets the natural world through ceramics, creating forms influenced by the environments surrounding bodies of water. Finding inspiration in the forms and textures found in nature, sand, shells, driftwood, rocks, things that have been carved by water, sea creatures or ancient geological processes.Â
Rubee utilises a range of mediums including ceramics and drawing, incorporating natural found-materials such as wild clay, sediment, and earth pigment. In their ceramics Rubee uses handbuilding for its immediacy and intuitiveness. They are interested in the significance of place, the materiality of clay, and their physical relationship between body, queerness, art, and nature.
Ceramics New Zealand is a national organisation supporting all who engage with ceramics, from practitioners to collectors, at every level, through providing access to education, knowledge, events, opportunities, and community.
