Otaki Pottery Club
Creating, learning and celebrating the art of pottery together
Description
Ōtaki Pottery Club was founded in 1989 by a small group of passionate potters who wanted to share their love of clay with the wider community. What began as a handful of enthusiasts has grown into a vibrant creative hub with more than 200 members and on average another 200 students per term.
Today, the club offers a welcoming space for everyone from absolute beginners through our classes to experienced ceramic artists, including artists in residence. Our members enjoy access to a fully equipped studio, including electric and gas kilns, raku firings, dedicated members wheel and hand-building areas, glazing facilities and a dedicated gallery space, The Tote Modern, where members regularly exhibit and sell their work.
Each year, we host major community events such as the Festival of Pots and Garden Art and Star Glaze, which attract visitors from across the region and celebrate the depth of creativity within our community. These festivals showcase the incredible talent of our members and guest artists, while helping to promote the art of pottery and support the ongoing growth of the club.
At its heart, the Ōtaki Pottery Club remains true to its founding vision — to promote the art of pottery, inspire creativity, and provide opportunities for the community to learn, create, and connect through clay.
