Whanganui Potters Studio
Description
Whanganui Pottersâ Studio is a community pottery studio located beside Te Awa Tupua, the Whanganui River.
The studio is a great place to create with clay. Learn as you work alongside others during our open studio sessions.
We are part of the Whanganui Community Arts Centre, established in 1990 to provide a venue for local artists and craftspeople to exhibit and sell their work.
Formerly a New Zealand railways bus maintenance depot building on Taupo Quay, the Community Arts Council turned the large empty space into a gallery, a studio and a meeting area for local artists and crafts people.
The redevelopment enabled a âPotters Patchâ to be created in a small room located on the north side of the building. This space allows us to offer hand building, wheel work, glazing, kiln and raku firing.
We run beginner pottery and beginner wheel classes each term, as well as public raku firings.
Whanganui Potters Studio has a number of events each year. Our annual exhibition happens around the middle of the year. We take part in Artists Open Studios during March.
Art in the Garden is our yearly celebration of ceramic and outdoor art set amongst garden space. Non-member exhibitors are welcome to apply to take part via our website.
Art in the Garden 2024 will take place Sat 30th Nov â Sun 1st Dec, 10am â 4pm, 15a Caversham Rd, Whanganui.
Our mission is to provide a safe and friendly environment for the community to create work and develop relationships with other creatives. Our vision is to be a vibrant, diverse and sustainable community promoting the ceramic arts.
